Canastota-Ruth Anne Ayers, 73, passed away at the home of her daughter Sue, on Monday, August 9, 2021, with the love and support of her children at her side following a lengthy illness.

She was born in Carthage on July 13, 1948 the only daughter of five children to the late Burton and Emma Tooker Santamour.  Ruth grew up in Carthage and attended Carthage High School.  Ruth was a proud working mom, combining work with raising her family.  Ruth was a “people person” and enjoyed her profession as a bar tender.  She had owned her own bar in the Town of Ohio called Haskell’s Inn.  She had also worked for numerous other establishments to include Jacks or Better and the Midway.

Ruth had also worked for numerous years at Oneida Molded Plastics. She had spent many years living in the Remsen-Boonville are until moving to her daughter’s Sue’s home for the last 5 past years. She was an avid Bingo player.  Most of all, Ruth was a devoted mother and grandmother, and her family was her “everything.”

Ruth is survived by her beloved children, her daughter Sue Guarino; her son David Damuth, and his companion Mona Stedman; her daughter Nichole Damuth, and her companion John Swalgin; her cherished grandchildren: Dillion, KaeLoni, Anthony, and Dawson; one great grandson Kaleb; her four brothers: Jim (Jeannie) Santamour, Pete (Eileen) Santamour, Joe (Bonnie) Santamour, and Tim (Kelly) Santamour.  Ruth is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. 

She was predeceased by her parents Burton and Emma; two beloved grand children Dustin Kent and Kayla Parow.

There are no services planned for Ruth.  Her family will hold a celebration of life at her daughter’s, Sue Guarino’s house.  3448 Indian opening Road, Canastota on August 14 at Noon. Friends and family are welcome to come celebrate. If you would like to donate in lieu of flowers please donate them to the Canastota VFW.
