Verona- Michael R. Boylan, 75, or “Cecil” as many knew him by, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 18, 2022 at Rome Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient for the past week.
He was born in Oneida on April 15, 1947, the son of the late Michael W. and Elenor Snyder Boylan.
He was a lifelong resident of Oneida where he graduated from Oneida High School. He later attended SUNY IT where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Business. Cecil proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict. While serving in Vietnam, Cecil was severely injured in combat, resulting in life-long struggles with physical disability. He was awarded the highest award, The Purple Heart, for his heroic actions in combat. Following his service to his country, Cecil worked a brief time at Oneida Limited and for the Federal Government, eventually retiring due to his combat injuries. Cecil kept active by running a Driving Range in Canastota and playing golf, his sport of passion. He was a devoted father, grandfather, and brother. Cecil would always find time to spend with his family, offering his love, support, and wisdom. He also enjoyed the company of his fellow veterans at the local Veteran’s Clubs.
Cecil is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Travis and Alana Boylan; his cherished grandson, Carter Boylan; his brother and sister-in-law, William and Eileen Boylan; nieces and nephews, Jason (Emily) Boylan and Darcie (Blake) Hilgenberg; and his great-nieces and nephews, Ella and Louis Hilgenberg, and Natalie, Julia, and James Boylan. Cecil also leaves behind numerous close friends.
He was predeceased by both his parents Michael W. and Elenor.
Graveside services with military honors will be held on Saturday, September 24, at 11 AM at St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Personal care is being provided for Cecil and his family by Jeffrey T.
