Mary M. Coolican
Oneida-Mary M. Coolican, 79, passed away Sunday, September 17th at home, with her family by her side.
She was born June 15th, 1944, in Syracuse, the daughter of the late Frank and Margaret Jean (Sax) Wilkins. She was a graduate of Fayetteville Manlius High School. On September 9, 1967, at St. Ann's Church, Manlius, she married Ronald J. Coolican. Mary and Ron owned and operated Coolican-McSweeney Funeral Home in Oneida for over 50 years. Prior to that Mary held many jobs including Carson’s Corner, V&J Graphics, McHarris Gifts and lastly Mazzullo’s Carpet. Mary was a parishioner of St. Joseph's Church, a member of the Oneida Elks Ladies Auxiliary, Catholic Daughters and The American Cancer Society. She was well loved and always was great at throwing a party for her cherished family and friends. The family wants to extend a special Thank You to April Fox and Sue Batte for the amazing care they provided Mary. The family was only able to honor Mary’s wishes with the help of these two extraordinary women!
She was predeceased by both her parents and husband Ronald.
She is survived by three children, Jean M. Coolican of Oneida, Andrew P. (Michelle) Coolican of Vernon and Daniel J. (Katie) Coolican of Sherrill; four grandchildren, Lukas Alter, Molly Coolican, Tristen Coolican, and Emily Coolican and also Haley Surprenant, who was like a granddaughter to her; two brothers in law, J. Richard Coolican of Jupiter, FL and Edward Coolican of DeWitt; two sisters in law, Barbara Paul of Camillus and Nancy Detor of Westvale; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, September 23rd at 11 AM at St. Joseph's Church, Oneida, with the Rev. James Buttner, officiating. Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Oneida. Calling hours are Friday September 22 from 4 PM to 7 PM at the Coolican-McSweeney & Paul Funeral Home, 322 Washington Ave., Oneida.
