ONEIDA - Marilyn J. Dunbar, 83, of Oneida, passed away early Monday morning, June 21, 2021 at Oneida Health. She was born on May 22, 1938, in Oneida at home, the daughter of Mabel I. (Cater) and Ernest P. Butler. She was a graduate of Oneida High School. On January 23, 1959, Marilyn was united in marriage to Alva G. Dunbar at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Oneida. Mr. Dunbar passed away in March, 1989.
In addition to being a homemaker, Marilyn was employed as a child care provider at the former Wee Care for several years.
She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.
Marilyn enjoyed fishing, crocheting, collecting, reading, playing card game, and music. Her greatest joy in life was her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was always kind and loving.
Surviving are her children, Karen (Dennis) Alvord, Margaret (Bill) Schoeneck, and Alva (Lisa) Dunbar, and her stepson, Dennis (Janiece) Dunbar and his family; nine grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving is Marilyn’s sister-in-law, Rose Butler and brother-in-law, William Rowe. In addition to her husband, Marilyn was predeceased by an infant daughter, Sandra J. Dunbar and her four siblings.
A service will be held at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Methodist Church for family and close friends on Friday, June 25. Interment will be at Glenwood Cemetery. Consideration of memorial contributions can be made to Wanderer’s Rest in lieu of flowers. The family’s care has been entrusted to Coolican-McSweeney and Paul Funeral Home.
