Obituary
Margaret M. Taylor
Oneida-Margaret M. Taylor, 81, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 23, 2023 at Faxton-St. Luke’s Medical Center.

Margaret was born in Brooklyn on January 20, 1942, the daughter of the late George Matsko and Dorothy Connolly-MacEnroe. Throughout Margaret’s life, family and close friends always lovingly called her Sissy. She was raised in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. When Margaret was pregnant with her sixth child she moved to Long Island, NY to give her children a yard to play in. For many years, Sissy was a single mother raising her seven children on her own. To support her family, she worked as a taxicab driver and dispatcher. She enjoyed her volunteer work at the Salvation Army. Sissy was a dedicated worker and devoted mother to her children. She made sure her children never went without. Her home’s door was always open and there was always an extra plate on the table for anyone. Sissy was truly a mom not only for her children but would also care for her kid’s friends that needed a “safe haven.” In 1987, Margaret married Charles A. Taylor. The family then moved to the Canastota and Oneida area in 2006. Their loving union lasted 33 years until Charles’s passing in 2020. Sissy was an avid BINGO player at the Turning Stone. She loved not only the thrill of the game, but the many friends she met, that she considered as family. Sissy leaves a legacy of having a big loving heart for all, being a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She touched many a heart and will always be remembered.

She is survived by loving children: Jack Melendez of Oneida, Ginny Bornschein of Oneida, Michael Melendez of Brooklyn, Marie Melendez of Savannah, GA, Paul Melendez of Oneida, Michelle “Matt” Jessen of Walhalla, SC, and Dorothy Nieves of Shirley, Long Island; her sisters, Geraldine “Frank” Biaculli of Lake Ariel, PA, Eileen Matsko- Brown of Tampa, Fl, 19 cherished and beloved grandchildren; 27 cherished and loved great grandchildren.

Margaret was predeceased by her husband Charles, parents George and Dorothy, her brother George Jr., and her loved and cherished grandson Anthony J. Bornschein.
