Oneida-Joseph William Loosman, Jr., 79, of passed away peacefully, at his home on Friday, November 19, 2021, with the love, support, and comfort, of his family at his side, following a lengthy illness.
He was born in Oneida on November 7, 1942, the son of Joseph W. and Noreen (Penner) Loosman, Sr. In 1962, Joseph graduated from Oneida High School. On May 16, 1968, at St. Patrick’s Church in Oneida, Joseph married Judy Conover. Joseph worked for his father at Joe Loosman Fuels until 1986. Joseph also owned and operated his own truck repair shop with his son for 13 years. Joseph also worked for the Madison County Highway Department in Wampsville, retiring on January 2012. For over 30 years, Joe was a member of the Oneida Castle Volunteer Fire Department, having served as Lieutenant, Captain and Board Member. Joe had a love of trucks and machinery, resurrecting rusting antique trucks to factory condition, and supporting his community as a volunteer fireman. Many will miss his whit, humor, and his big smile. He was devoted husband, father, grandfather, and loyal friend; his love and wisdom taught, will be forever with his family.
Surviving Joe, is his beloved wife of 53 years, Judy; one loving son, Joseph and Michelle Loosman III; one beloved daughter, N. Jane Champney Carroll and her husband, Jeffrey Carroll; one sister, Eleanor and Robert (Butch) Vineall; brother-in-law’s, David Higinbutham, Dale Conover and Terrie and Tracy Conover; sister-in-law, Amanda Buell and her companion, Scott Terrier; grandchildren, Kylee Loosman, Erin Loosman, Alex Hopkins, Darin Champney and Sabrina Champney. Joe is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Joseph was predeceased by his parents Joe Sr. and Noreen, and a sister, Aliece Higinbutham.
In keeping with Joseph’s wishes, his family will come together privately to honor his life. There will be no public calling hours. Interment will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
