Oneida, NY -- Georgianna Mennig, 74, of Oneida, passed away peacefully at her home of nearly 50 years surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, October 7, 2021. Known to many as “Gigi,” she was born on April 20, 1947 in Rome, NY, to Howard and Ellen Marsh, and was a 1966 graduate of Stockbridge High School. She married the love of her life James on June 10, 1966.
For many years she worked at Stanton Paper Box Company, and spent decades babysitting for local families. Georgianna valued spending time with her family and enjoyed visiting her summer camp in Cooperstown. She was an avid baker known for the hundreds of Christmas cookies she gave as gifts. She enjoyed eating meals with family, bowling, going to craft fairs, and was a frequent donor to many charities.
Georgianna is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, James, of Oneida; daughters Amy (Harold) Gowans, of Sherrill, and Jill (Neal) Rotach, of Westmoreland; grandsons William (Kolleen) Hart and Andrew Gowans; granddaughters Hayleigh (Miles), Alicia, Elizabeth, and Hannah Gowans, and Arianna (Ciara) Rotach; step-grandchildren Jayme Gowans and Dylan, Gabby, and Stephen Cafalone; brother Howard (Gail) Marsh; great-granddaughter Avery Hart; special caregiver Ashley Vanderwerken; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is predeceased by her son James Mennig II; parents Howard and Ellen Marsh; brother Donnie Marsh; and sisters Barbara Burton and Melinda Passage.
Per her wishes, there will be no calling hours. A private service will be held for the immediate family. Contributions may be made in Georgianna’s memory to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
