Donald Sears Obituary

Oriskany Falls-Donald C. Sears, 60, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on Monday, August 8, 2022, following a courageous battle against cancer, with his wife Shirley and his daughter, Colleen at his side.

Don was born in Oneida on January 18, 1962, the son of the late Thomas G. and Althea R. Wilson Sears.  He was raised in Sherrill and graduated from VVS High School.  Don was a talented mechanic and could fix anything that had an engine and wheels.  He had worked at Thompson and Johnson Company of East Syracuse for 32 years.  He had been a fork lift and material handling equipment repairman.  He went on to work at Gutchess Lumber in Vernon Center as an equipment operator. On September 26, 2020 Don married Shirley Rockwell.  He was a “Man’s Man” and loved big boy toys.  He enjoyed his motorcycles, his four wheelers, and his snowmobiles. Don was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting.  He was a devoted Buffalo Bills Fan. Don will always be remembered as a loving husband, dad, and grandpa

He is survived by his wife Shirley Rockwell Sears; his daughter and her husband, Colleen M. and Cody Stewart, and their children, Isabella J. Stewart and Brenton C. Stewart; his step-son Patrick Williams, and his son, Flynn Colvin-Williams; his step son Bradley Williams, and his children Rowan Williams and Harriet Williams; his step son Cody Rockwell; his step son and his wife. Nicholas and Jasmin Rockwell, and their children, Harper Rockwell and Jaxton Rockwell; his steps son Nathan Rockwell and his fiancée, Kendra Soto, and their son Jacob Rockwell; his brothers and sister-in- laws: Jimmy and Debbie Sears, Larry and Shelly Sears, and Dave and Sue Sears; his sister Diane Sears. Several nieces, nephews, and close friends also survive Don.

Don was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Althea, and his brother Wayne Sears.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2022 from 4-7 PM at the Coolican-McSweeney & Paul Funeral Home, 322 Washington Avenue, in Oneida. A prayer service will follow the visitation.  Interment services will be private. Funeral arrangements and family care is being personally provided by Jeffrey T.
