Dean H. Blanchard

Sylvan Beach-Dean H. Blanchard,67, passed away peacefully with the love and support of his beloved wife Karen by his side on Monday, April 26, 2021, at his home, following a short, but courageous battle against cancer.

 

He was born in Cobleskill, NY on June 18, 1953, the son of the late Donald and Geraldine Berner Blanchard.  He was raised in Mohawk and was a graduate of Mohawk High School.  Dean continued his education and was a graduate of Herkimer County Community College and the NYS Division of Criminal Justice Police Academy at MVCC. On October 21, 2011, in Sylvan Beach, Dean was united in marriage to Karen Murray Rossi.  Dean had retired from the Village of Ilion Police Department with the rank of Sergeant.  He later went on to work for the US Postal Service until his retirement in 2012.  He then went on to work as a Security Officer at Turning Stone Casino and most recently at Oneida Health Care.

 Dean was a member of the Sons of the American Legion at the Sylvan Beach American Legion Post #1153.

 

Dean was devoted to his family and is survived by his loving wife Karen; her daughters, Andrea Head of Sylvan Beach and Kayleigh Rossi of Canastota, and her fiancé, Corey Gallup; Dean’s beloved grandson Brodie Grems of Sylvan Beach, and Brodie’s father Brian Grems; his brothers Drew (Jan) Blanchard of South Burlington, VT and Darryl (Michelle) Blanchard of Cambridge, Ontario; his sister-in-law Claudette Blanchard of Richfield Springs..  Dean leaves behind nieces, nephews, cousins, close friends and many of Karen’s Family members, along with his special canine little girl, Abbie.

 Dean was predeceased by his parents, Donald and Geraldine, and his brother David Blanchard.

 

In keeping with Dean’s wishes, there will be no visitation or services held. Dean’s family have entrusted their care to Jeffrey T. Dean’s family are grateful for the exceptional care and compassion given to them by Hospice.  They ask that donations be sent in Dean’s name to Hospice and Palliative Care, 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, New York 13413.
