Bruce B. Hannel Sr.

Oneida-Bruce B. Hannel Sr., 73, passed away peacefully on Thursday , May 18, 2023, at Crouse Hospital, Syracuse.

Bruce was born in Oneida on July 1, 1949, the son  of the late Elwood and Jean Adelia  Hannel.  He grew up in Oneida and was a graduate of Oneida High School.  On May 6, 1972, Bruce married JoAnn Curro, at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church.  He was an Army Veteran having served his country for over 20 years.  For his heroic actions in Vietnam, Bruce was awarded the Purple Heart and a Bronze Star.  Upon his retirement, Bruce and JoAnn resettled back in Oneida. In retirement, Bruce had various “second careers.” He had worked as a maintenance man at Oneida Towers, Animal Control Office for the City of Oneida, and a Cab Driver for Oneida Taxi.   He was a proud man who devoted his life to God, Country, and his family.  He was a role model for all to follow.

He is survived by his children, two sons and daughters-in-laws Bruce B. Jr., and Miranda Hannel of Oneida, and Patrick E. and Nicole Hannel of Sanford, ME. Bruce is also survived by his beloved and cherished 6 grandchildren.  He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.

Bruce was predeceased by his parents, Elwood and Adelia, his beloved wife and soulmate of 50 years, JoAnn, and his sister Shyrl Lynn Combs.
