Betty McGovern Obituary

Betty A. McGovern

Oneida-Betty A. McGovern, 67, passed away peacefully at Upstate University Hospital on Friday, December 29, 2023, with the love and support of her family at her side, shortly following admission to the medical center.

She was born in Cortland on October 8. 1956, the daughter of the late Clesson Lidell Jr. and Phyillis Greene Lidell.  In her younger years, and due to her father’s employment, Betty was raised in Florida, Ohio, and New York, settling in Cazenovia. Betty married Terry, her best friend of 42 years on November 17, 1981. She had worked for numerous years at the Oneida Hospital in the housekeeping department.  She later went on to further her education, receiving her license as a Certified Nursing Assistant.   Betty spent the rest of her working career at the Presbyterian Home, retiring in 2022.  Betty and Terry loved to spend the summers camping, with a special love for Delta Lake, Fox Run in Jewel, NY, and Sylvan Beach. Camping was also special because family members and friends would stop over at camp no matter the occasion. She also loved her garden, raising a bountiful harvest during the growing season.  Betty was also known to “can” many of her fruits and vegetables to share with others. Most of all, Betty’s love for all was immeasurable; she was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. `

Betty is survived by her by all who loved her, her husband Terry of Oneida; her children: Debra Brais and her companion John Caflin of Oneida, Jamie McGovern of TN, Sue McGovern and her companion Don Adle of Oneida, Kerrie McGovern of Oneida, and Ben McGovern of Oneida; her siblings: Venessa (Joe) Terry of Rensselaer, Judy (Mark) Cicora of Auburn, Michael Lidell of FL, Janina Marenberg of OH, Donna (Rod) Baker of Groton, and Holly Brown; her cherished grandchildren: Summer Powers, Brenden Powers, Sebastian Powers, Seth Gent, Justin McGovern, Skyler Eaton, and Jasmine Eaton; and her beloved great grandson Bentley Powers. Betty is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

Betty was predeceased by her parents Clesson and Phyllis
