Benjamin Edick Obituary

Benjamin Edick passed away peacefully on May 7th, 2019 at the age of 67, with his family by his side.  Ben was born on December 22nd, 1951 in Rome, New York the son of Benjamin Edick Jr., and Dorothy (Swinney) Edick.  Ben was the oldest of 10 children.  He graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1969.  After High School, Ben studied psychology at Stony Brook University in New York.  When Ben returned from college, he worked at the Rome Developmental Center as a DAII for 30 years.  While working at RDC, Ben met his soulmate, Sherry Nichols.  They were married in 1983.  They have five daughters and ten grandchildren.  Ben enjoyed the little things in life, time outdoors in the sun, gardening, going to “the races” at Utica Rome Speedway, reading Sci-Fi novels and spending time with his family. 

Ben is survived by the love of his life, Cheryl (Nichols) Edick of Oneida; his five daughters, Beth and Jason Jacobs of Sherrill, New York, Heather and Dan Planck of Oneida Castle, Erin and Tye Rood of Oneida, Shannon and Dave Fellows of Oneida and Jamie Edick of Oneida; his grandchildren, Alexys, Kiley, Isaac, Shane, Emilie, Fisher, Rylee, Dominic, Madilyn and Alexander; he is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Corinne Arredondo of Rome, Andi Edick of Rome, Tara and Mike Brockway of Rome, Shaun and Lauri Edick of Durhamville, Eric and Lori Edick of Rome, Heather Edick of Rome and brother-in-law, Glenn Tebo of Rome.  Ben is also survived by his father in-law and mother in-law, Jim and Lori Nichols of Oriskany, New York; and several nieces and nephews. 

Ben  was predeceased by his father, Benjamin Edick, his mother, Dorothy Edick, two sisters, Belinda Sanflippo and Allison Edick along with one brother, Rich Edick.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday 11 a.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery in Churchville, with Rev. Katie Yahns officiating.  Calling Hours will be held on Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Coolican-McSweeney Funeral Home, 322 Washington Ave., Oneida.
