Barbara Hillen Obituary

Liverpool/Oneida-Barbara Anne Hillen, 58, lovingly referred to by all as Barbie, passed away on Friday, October 7, 2022, following prolonged health issues at University Hospital. Her family was present at her side with prayers and loving support.

Barbie was born at the former Canastota Hospital on January 17, 1964, the daughter of Eugene and Carol Noble Salerno. She was raised in Oneida and was a graduate of Oneida High School Class of 1982. Barbie went to further her education at Morrisville College. She graduated in 1984 earning her Registered Nursing Degree. She went on to her “dream” career in nursing, spanning a 40 year career as a RN and a Unit Manager. She had provided care for numerous patients at various rehabilitation and extended care facilities throughout the Troy and Albany area. Barbie’s heart was deeply rooted in patient care. She had married John W. Hillen on September 3, 1994. John predeceased Barbie on April 22, 2016. Barbie had a love for anything purple, butterflies, and rock and roll. Barbie carried a deep love for her family; they were her “greatest gift from God.”

She is survived by her beloved children Sara (Adam) Cronin of Liverpool, and Patrick Hillen of Syracuse; her cherished parents, Eugene and Carol Salerno of Sherrill; her beloved grandchildren Atticus and Molly Cronin of Liverpool; her siblings Cheryl (Brian) Hartgraves of Newtown, CT, and their children Connor and Erin; Eugene (Sophie) Salerno of London, England, and their children Lucas and Eva. Barbie also is survived by various aunts, uncles, and cousins.

There will be a celebration of Barbie’s life to be held at the Owls Club on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at Noon. Internment services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
