Anita M. Rathbun

Anita M. Rathbun of Oneida, NY, and winter resident of Largo, FL passed away on May 29, 2023.

Born in Cooperstown , NY, Anita graduated from Richfield Springs Central Schools and Cortland State University. She did graduate work at Syracuse University, Cortland, and Oswego State University. Prior to retirement in 1989,  Anita was employed by Canastota NY schools as a first-grade teacher at Roberts St Elementary School and later at Peterboro St. Elementary School where she was President of the Canastota Teachers Association (3 years) and served as a delegate to the NY State United teachers (15 years).

Anita received the Canastota Alumni Association Golden Apple Retired Teachers Award in 1999.  She also was a member of Oneida Elks BPO 747, Kanon Valley Country Club in Oneida – serving as board director (12 years) and editor of the club newsletter for 15 years.  Anita was also a member of Clearwater Country Club (FL) and past champion at East Bay Golf Club in Largo, FL. She also for many years was an avid champion bowler.

Anita is survived by eleven nieces and nephews in Florida, Montana, North Carolina, and California. 

Funeral Services will be private at the convenience of the family with no calling hours. Personal and professional care is being provided by Jeffrey T,. Paul, Director, of the Coolican-McSweeney & Paul Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Canastota Dollars for Scholars. Any donation sent through the Scholarship America site will go directly to the local Canastota Dollars for Scholars chapter. Canastota Dollars for Scholars
