Oneida-Allen D. Nelson, 73, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 30, 2022, while his beloved daughter was holding his hand, at the Colonial Park Nursing Home, Rome.
He was born in Fargo, ND, the son of the late Norman and Adorine Jaffery Nelson. Allen had graduated from High School from North Highland High School in North Highland, CA. Allen’s father had worked for the United States Government. As a young man, he saw many different states, eventually coming with his family to Rome. Allen had worked numerous years at Oneida Limited, prior to its closing. This is where he met the love of his life, Janice. On August 13, 1976, at the Oneida Methodist Church, he married Janice Widger. Their love lasted 35 years until Janice’s passing in 2011. Halloween was one of Allan’s favorite holidays. He loved to decorate the home and provide the area children with much happiness. He enjoyed the summer concert series, attending them with his beloved daughter, Heather. He was a very involved member of the Oneida Moose Club, and the Sons of the American Legion Post of Sherrill. He was a member of the United Methodist Church. He will be remembered as a devoted husband and father.
Allen is survived by his cherished daughter, Heather Nelson of Oneida; and his brother Randy Allen of Santa Cruz, CA.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife Janice, his parents Norman and Adorine; and his brothers Curtis Nelson and Kenneth Nelson.
Allen’s funeral will be held on Friday, November 3, 2022 at the Oneida First Methodist Church at 11 AM with the Rev. Bryant Clark, Pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Valley View Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4-7PM at the Coolican-McSweeney & Paul Funeral Home, 322 Washington Avenue in Oneida.
