Viola Mary Serviss

Viola Mary Serviss, 99, of Oneida, passed away Friday, August 24, 2018 at Oneida Healthcare ECF.

She was born July 13, 1919, in Thendara, the daughter of Isaac and Mary Pentland and was a graduate of Oneida schools.  In 1938, she married Otto Carlton Serviss.  He passed away in 1996.   She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in Oneida and was a member of the Order of Carmelite’s in Utica. 

Viola was a lifelong waitress and knew every chef and waitress in Central NY.  She had the “gift of gab”, was well known for her sense of humor and enjoyed being a foster grandmother.   

She is survived by two children, Leila Rice of Oneida and Stephen (Lynda) Serviss of Oneida; nine grandchildren; and many great grandchildren.  She was predeceased by two sons, Keith and Kenneth Serviss. 

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the convenience of the family at St. Joseph’s Church, Oneida, with Rev. Richard J. Kapral officiating.  Interment will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
