Richard F. Soluske, 72, of Sylvan Beach, passed away at Oneida Healthcare Center on Sunday, December 16, 2018, with his loving family by his side.
He was born August 2, 1946, in Syracuse, the son of Francis A. and Margaret C. (Klodzen) Soluske. Richard married Linda L. Sestito on December 16, 1977 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Rome. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving from 1966-1969. He was honorably discharged after serving as an MP in the Vietnam War. After returning, he attended the New York State Police Academy and became a New York State Trooper, working out of Troop D. He retired in 1993 as a BCI Investigator. Throughout his dedicated years of service, he was awarded several service medals from the US Army and the New York State Police. After he retired from the NYSP, he joined the Oneida Nation Gaming Commission as a Lead Inspector. He retired from the Nation in 2013.
Mr. Soluske enjoyed spending time with his with family and taking numerous trips with his wife to Las Vegas and Atlantic City.
Mr. Soluske is survived by his wife, Linda; a daughter, Michelle and Andrew Coolican of Vernon; and a granddaughter, Emily. He is also survived by a sister, Anna Mae Pokrentowski of Baldwinsville; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Edward Soluske of Pennsylvania.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, December 21 from 4 PM to 7 PM at the Coolican-McSweeney Funeral Home, 322 Washington Ave., Oneida.
