Kurt W. Wanfried, 66, of Oneida, passed away Monday, September 3, 2018 at his home.
He was born August 4, 1952 at Griffiss Air Force Base in Rome, the son of the late Colonel Harold W. and Joan Bordner Wanfried. Kurt received his BA degree in Journalism from Penn State University. On July 11, 1987, in Philadelphia, PA, he married Linda Silver.
Kurt stated his career in the Newspaper business as a Photographer, later working as Chief Photographer and raising to the position of Editor at the Evening Sentinel in Carlisle, PA. In 2002, he moved to Oneida to become Editor of the Oneida Daily Dispatch.
Kurt enjoyed golfing, making homemade foods and homemade coffee by roasting his own coffee beans and was known as the “gadget man”.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Linda; two children, Joanna Lee Wanfried and her partner, Leon Adams of Albany and George Edison Wanfried of Oneida; his sister, Barbara (Barry) Brown of Philadelphia, PA; his cousin, Judith Wanfried of Lebanon PA; his mother-in-law, Wilma Silver of Pompano Beach, FL; his sister-in-law, Bonnie Handel and her partner, Robert Auwood of Palm City, FL; and his brother-in-law, David M. (Gwenn) Silver of Philadelphia, PA.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday at 4 pm at Coolican-McSweeney Funeral Home, 322 Washington Ave, Oneida. Calling hours will be Saturday from 2-4, prior to the celebration. Private interment will be in Hummelstown Cemetery, Hummelstown, PA.
