Lynda A. Cole
Oneida-Lynda Ann Cole, 76, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at Oneida Healthcare with the love and support of her family by her side.
She was born on October 10, 1947in Utica, the daughter of the late Edwin L. Cole and Doris W. Cole. Lynda was a 1965 graduate of Oneida High School. She furthered her education by graduating from Buffalo State College majoring in Child Special Education Studies. For a brief period in Lynda’s life, she taught special education classes in Ohio. She later returned to New York, spending the rest of working career teaching in the Special education Program at Marcy Elementary School. In her retirement, Lynda was always excited to play BINGO at the Turning Stone. Crossword puzzles, needle point, and plastic canvas. She has many wonderful and cherished gifts for family and friends. Lynda was a member of the New York State Teacher’s Union and Durhamville Veteran’s Club Auxiliary. She had also been a parishioner of the former St. Frances Catholic Church in Durhamville. She always looked forward to the upcoming Cole Family Reunion. She could always be found with her nieces and nephews, whom she cherished, ready to go on a new adventure, no matter the destination. She loved her nieces and nephews as her own children. Her spirit and loving and kind disposition will be missed by all.
Lynda is survived by her sisters Bonnie (Henry Sr.) Gerwig of Rome, and Karen (Tim) Perry of Canastota; her special nephews and care givers: Henry Jr, Patrick, and Chris; her aunt Joyce Vlaic of Seal Beach, CA. Lynda is survived by many other nieces, nephews, nieces, great nieces, great nephews, and close friends.
She was predeceased by her parents Ed and Doris; two sisters Donna Jones and Barbara Cutrie; and her brothers-in-law Alan Snyder and Douglas Cutrie.
Lynda’s family would like to give a special thank you to Nicole and Rob, and their family for the love and support offered to Lynda in the last three months of her life. Also, a thank you to Cathleen Dapson Scott for her constant visit with Lynda to offer comfort and spiritual support.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at 12:00 PM, at Joseph’s Catholic Church where the Rev James Buttner will officiate. Interment will be in Crown Hill Memorial Park, Clinton. Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Tuesday from 3-7 PM at the Coolican-McSweeney & Paul Funeral Home, 322n Washington Avenue in Oneida.
